What are the rules for using an e-scooter in Finland?
As a driver of an electric scooter in Finland, you follow the same traffic signs as cyclists. In addition, you need to take into account the following conditions:
- There is no minimum age set for using an e-scooter (note that some local rental companies apply a minimum age of 18);
- It is not compulsory to hold a driving licence;
- The use of a helmet is not compulsory but recommended;
- You should use the cycle path and otherwise the carriageway;
- You are not allowed to drive on the pavement. Children under 12 and drivers with e-scooters that have a maximum speed of 15 km/h are allowed to ride at a walking pace on the pavement;
- It is forbidden to use your phone while driving;
- It is not allowed to participate in traffic with more than 0.5 promille.

What are the costs?
Each provider charges its own rate. However, the costs are structured in the same way for all providers. You pay a starting rate to unlock the scooter. You then pay a rate per minute.
On average, you pay £0.86for unlocking. Then you pay £0.13 per minute for using it. Do you take a 15-minute ride? Then you’ll pay around £2.80 for this.
