Renting an electric scooter in Prague: the rules, options and costs

For those who want to explore the streets for Prague in a flexible way, the electric scooter has been around for several years. There are several options for renting a scooter. Find out here what the options are, what it costs and what rules you need to consider as a driver.

The rules for using an e-scooter in Prague

As an e-scooter driver, you follow the same traffic rules as cyclists. In addition, keep in mind the following conditions:

  • There is no minimum age for riding an e-scooter;
  • The speed limit is set at 25 km/h;
  • Possession of a driving licence is not compulsory;
  • A helmet requirement applies to children up to 18 years of age;
  • Driving on the pavement is prohibited. Children up to 10 years old may ride on the pavement, but they must not get in the way of pedestrians when doing so;
  • There is an absolute ban on alcohol when riding an e-scooter.

This is how you can rent an e-scooter as a tourist

There are two ways to rent a scooter:

  • Hire an e-scooter for a day(s) through a local provider. This is often offered in combination with a tour of places of interest.
  • Make use of a share scooter.

Rent an e-scooter for a day (or part thereof)

You can rent a scooter for a day(part) through several local rental companies, possibly in combination with a tour. The cost depends on the duration of the ride and the number of people in the group. For a day(part), you pay an average of £27 per person.

The advantage of having your ‘own’ e-scooter is that you have it at your disposal for the entire rental period. The disadvantage compared to a share scooter is that you need to keep the scooter with you at all times.
