What are rules for using an e-scooter in Vienna?

In Vienna, as an e-scooter driver, you follow the same traffic signs as cyclists. In addition, you should take into account the following conditions:

  • The minimum age is 18 years;
  • You do not need to hold a driving licence;
  • There is no helmet requirement;
  • You may ride on a pavement only if it is clearly marked. In all other cases, you use the cycle path or public road;
  • It is forbidden to ride two people on one e-scooter;
  • It is not allowed to drive side by side and block the road;
  • Telephone use while driving is prohibited. Hands-free calling is allowed.

Through various local rental companies (such as a bike shop or local tour operator), you can rent a scooter for a day(part). The costs are different for each provider and usually get lower as you rent the scooter for several hours.

Scan the QR code
Unlock the scooter by scanning the QR code on the handlebar via the app.
End the ride
At the end of the ride, park the vehicle in the designated zone. End the ride via the app and you will receive a statement of the charges incurred.
