Rent an electric scooter in Austria? Here’s how it works

Austria welcomes more than 30 million tourists on average every year. These numbers call for smart transport solutions. That’s why several municipalities have provided electric sharescooters. This makes it easy for tourists to get from A to B.

How do you use a share scooter and what rules do you need to consider? We’ve got it covered.

The rules for using an e-scooter in Austria

In Austria, an electric scooter is called an eTretroller. The following rules govern the use of these two-wheelers:

  • You are not allowed to ride two e-scooters side by side;
  • Two or more people are not allowed to ride on one e-scooter;
  • Calling while driving is prohibited. Hands-free calling is allowed;
  • Possession of a driving licence is not compulsory;
