Electric scooter in the Czech Republic: the rules and costs

What are the rules for using an e-scooter in the Czech Republic?

In the Czech Republic, as a driver of an electric scooter, you follow the same traffic rules as cyclists. You use the cycle path and if that is not possible, you can ride on the carriageway. In addition, the following rules apply:

  • There is no minimum age for riding a share scooter;
  • There is no driving licence requirement;
  • The speed limit is set at 25 km/h;
  • The use of a helmet is compulsory for children up to 18 years old;
  • You are not allowed to drive on the pavement. Children under 10 are allowed to ride on the pavement if they do not disturb pedestrians when doing so;
  • There is an absolute alcohol ban on riding an e-scooter.

How do you use a share scooter as a tourist?

To rent an electric share scooter in the Czech Republic, several providers offer their services through a mobile app. This goes as follows:

Download the mobile app from one of the active providers.
Create an account
Create an account and link a payment method. Most providers accept payments via credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Find a share scooter
See in the app where the nearest sub-scooter is located.
Unlock the vehicle
Unlock the scooter by scanning the QR code on the handlebar via the app.
End the ride
At the end of the ride, park the vehicle in the designated zone. End the ride via the app and you will receive a statement of the charges incurred.

What are the costs?

Each provider sets its own charges. The fee is usually made up of a starting fee and a per-minute fee. On average, you pay £0.88 for unlocking the scooter and £0.13 cents per minute for using it.

For a 15-minute ride, you will then pay £2.86.
