The rules for using an e-scooter in Budapest
In Hungary, as an e-scooter driver, you follow the same traffic signs as moped riders. Here are the most important rules to remember:
- The minimum age is 16 years;
- You must hold a moped driver’s licence (AM);
- It is forbidden to use your phone while driving;
- Wearing a helmet and reflective safety vest is mandatory;
- It is compulsory to have the front and rear lights on during the day and at night;
- It is illegal to drive an electric scooter with alcohol in the blood.
This is how you can rent an e-scooter as a tourist
In Budapest, there are two ways to use an e-scooter.
- Hire an e-scooter for a day(part) through a local provider. This is often offered in combination with a tour.
- Make use of a share scooter.
Rent an e-scooter for a day (or part thereof)
Through various local rental companies (such as a bike shop or local tour operator), rent a scooter for a day(part). Tourists can combine the ride with a group tour or an individual tour.
The cost depends on the duration of the ride and the number of people in the group. For the duration of 2 hours, you pay an average of £16.39.
The advantage of having your ‘own’ e-scooter is that you have it at your disposal for the entire rental period. The disadvantage compared to a share scooter is that you need to keep the scooter with you at all times.
You can rent a scooter from the following rental companies:
