Rent an electric scooter in Paris? Here’s how to do it

Since 2018, you can discover Paris by trottinette électrique (electric scooter). You can use a local provider for this, or a share scooter.

Find out how this works, what it costs and what rules you need to consider.

The rules for using an e-scooter in Paris

As a driver of an electric scooter in France, you follow the same traffic rules as cyclists. In addition, you should take into account the following conditions:

  • The minimum age for using an e-scooter is 12 years;
  • You cannot ride an e-scooter with more than one person;
  • It is forbidden to drive on the pavement;
  • There is a speed limit of 20 km/h on regular roads and 8 km/h in congested areas;
  • Using a phone, headphones or earphones while driving is prohibited;
  • It is forbidden to park an e-scooter on a pavement where it may inconvenience others;
  • You are not allowed to drive against the flow of traffic.

Note that violation of one or more rules can result in a fine between £116,48 and £1294,25.

This is how you can rent an e-scooter as a tourist

There are two ways you can use an electric scooter in Paris. Which option is the most advantageous depends on the length of use:

  1. You rent an e-scooter for a day(part) through a local rental company.
  2. You use a rental scooter. Here, you pay a starting rate and a rate per minute you ride.

Rent an e-scooter for a half day

Several rental companies allow you to rent a scooter for a fixed period. In this case, you pay in advance for the number of hours you want to use the vehicle. The average rental price in Paris is £12,94 per hour. The following rental company allows you to book e-scooters online:

Rent&Go
Address: 19 Quai des Grands Augustins, 75006, Paris
Price per hour: £12,94
Price for 24 hours: £43,14

Make use of a share scooter

The second option is to use an electric share scooter. You can find these vehicles throughout the city. Using an app, you create an account and unlock a vehicle.

The advantage of a share scooter is its flexibility: you start and stop the ride at your convenience. You take advantage of this in the following way:
